Escape the Backrooms chases down a 23 October release date for 1.0 launch

Four new levels, alternative endings, and improved visuals across the board

Level 0, The Backrooms – 18 September 2025: Grab your friends... wait, is that your friend? What was that sound? And where the hell are you anyway? Confusion and terror await in the 1.0 launch of Escape the Backrooms, one of the most popular co-op horror games based on Backrooms lore, landing on PC via Steam on 23 October. 

Escape the Backrooms sees players working together with up to three of their friends to explore the seemingly infinite expanse of the Backrooms, hiding and running from deadly entities as they scramble to find an exit. Solve puzzles to progress further into the Backrooms and try to get your bearings in apparently endless liminal spaces, impossible hotels, and creepily calm pools. Proximity voice chat will help you keep in touch with your team, but the monsters can hear you too, so try not to scream...

The 1.0 launch will include a treasure trove of terrifying new content, including four new levels to explore, meaning well over 50 environments to creep around. Discover the origins of the Bacteria in Overgrowth, get up close with Kitty in Level 974, expand your M.E.G. research in Bunker, or take some time to chill out in Grassrooms, which is definitely, totally safe. Probably.

Existing levels have also been given some tweaks and additions to encourage a return visit, while visuals in the game have also been improved across the board to make your latest escapes feel fresh. A newly added mission screen will make return trips easier than before, and alternative endings have been added for those intrepid wanderers prepared to uncover all the secrets the game has to offer – keep your access cards close...

Escape the Backrooms first launched in Early Access in 2022 and has been a major success for solo developer Fancy Games, with a 91% Very Positive rating on Steam from over 90,000 user reviews. Fancy Games has now joined up with a team of developers to help with the 1.0 and console launches and secured award-winning publisher Secret Mode as a partner to help spread the terror even further.
